Guide to buying a static caravan
Imagine a holiday where you can return as much as you please. Where you can eliminate the admin. Where you can stay in a space that you can call your own. Where you can make friends and family memories that last a lifetime. Welcome to the world of static caravan ownership.
We’ve all been there. We need an escape from the hustle and bustle, so we fire up the laptop and look into a whole host of holiday packages that provide much welcome, but temporary sanctuary from the stresses and strains of daily life. Now think of a position where the goodbyes are the only aspect that are temporary, where the conversations are ‘see you in a couple of weeks’ rather than a permanent 'see you when I see you’.
Our owners don’t just own an asset that they can return to when they please, they’re part of communities that make their static caravan more than just a place to stay, but a huge part of their lifestyle that brings refreshing experiences every time they set foot on our parks. If you fancy joining a world where you know your neighbours as friends, where you can watch the kids grow up in a safe environment and have your own place just steps from the beach, read on and find out how to buy one of our static caravans.
Step 1 – Find a Haven park that ticks all your boxes

Haven is the home of coastal caravan parks, with so many to choose from and down the UK. With parks in England, Scotland and Wales, you’re never too far from one whether you’re based in a big British city or a provincial town. From the northern shores of Northumberland all the way down to classic coastal Cornwall, you’re bound to be within a reasonable distance of one of our parks with static caravans. You can find a full list of our parks here.
Location is crucial, but not the sole thing to factor into buying a caravan with us. Here are some other key questions you’ll want to consider.
How often do I intend to visit?
How often you intend to visit will inform what’s a reasonable distance to travel. If you’re looking to escape the coast every weekend, you may not want to be more than a two to three-hour drive away from the park that’s caught your eye. In contrast, if you’re looking to stay somewhere for longer periods or even during the week, you can extend your journey time with little hassle as you won’t be travelling back and forth as much.
What can I do on the park itself?
Getting the right vibe and atmosphere for your family’s needs on holiday is crucial, and the same applies to ownership. For some, the quieter a place is the better, others want a whole host of things to do when they’re on park with us. There are a range of owners-only benefits at a range of our parks, but nothing is compulsory, and you can get involved as little or as much as you please. Get a feel for your shortlisted parks with our unique digital brochures for each and every one.
What can I do in the surrounding area?
When you’re looking to own with us, the experiences extend well beyond the borders of our parks. A luxury static caravan of your own provides you a base to explore the surroundings, which are truly glorious regardless of the place you pick. Ask yourself what your priorities are. Do you want a whole host of extra amenities in walking distance or are you happy to be in a secluded spot away from it all? Look at what your family usually like to do on holiday and assess the options. Whatever floats your boat, a breath of fresh air by the sea is guaranteed.
Can the dog come along with us?
38 of the 39 parks in our collection welcome the furry member of the family with open arms. There’s a whole host of dog friendly things to do around the park and the surroundings, so you can a spot for your pooch that extends beyond the caravan you buy.
Which one of these factors is most important to me and the family?
Of course, different people have different priorities, and looking at these basic things to consider is just the start of the ownership journey. Take time to evaluate what’s right for you and your family and you’ll be rewarded with the best possible experiences for your investment. Our friendly team will be on hand every step of the way to guide you to an outcome that suits your ownership needs.
Step 2 – Get to grips with the costs of caravan ownership

Buying a static caravan of your own is a major investment, with costs that extend beyond the price of the model itself. What you can’t put a price on is the memories made with it. We’ve broken our explanation of the cost down into three key areas. The first surrounds purchasing the holiday home of your choice itself, the second concerns the site fees of where your model is based, and the third is all about what is costs to keep all your amenities running. Allow us to explain more.
The model
Take a look at the range of caravan models we currently have on sale and see what fits into your budget. The prices you see cover the cost of the holiday home and the essential adds on like safety and security of your prospective place. We have a fantastic finance option available (subject to status and availability), where a one-off deposit and affordable monthly payments could be the route you may want to take to own your own. There are also a range of optional extras to make your model all the more special, with a dose of delightful decking a particularly popular addition with our current owners.
The site fees
Site fees and the amount they add to depends on the park of your choice, availability of the pitches for your caravan and the degree to which they suit the model that you choose. Haven site fees are paid at the start of the calendar year’s season on March 1. This fee covers the whole year and includes everything from maintenance of the park to use of the facilities.
The running costs
These relate to the cost of amenities within model of your choice, such as water, gas, electricity and insurance. The total cost of these necessities' changes with each year, but our experts have come up with estimates so you can factor this into any decision making when you enquire.
It’s also worth noting that our 30-day money-back guarantee has you covered whatever the case. We realise that things don’t always go to plan, so if any circumstances do change in this period, you can hand the key to caravan back to us and we’ll return every penny.
