Things to do in Lake District
The Lake District is home to some well-known peaks: the Old Man of Coniston or maybe Scafell Pike – the highest point in England. Visit the abandoned mines around Honister and the ruined abbey of Furness. Take a trip to see Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, both former homes of William Wordsworth. Poetry was not the only writing inspired by the district. The little ones will love the World of Beatrix Potter, where Peter Rabbit and the rest of the gang are brought to full furry life. Or try the Lakes Aquarium or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Fly a kite on the beach at Morecombe Bay or get out on the water and try a spot of sailing in Lake Windermere. Less outdoorsy thrill-seekers can head to Blackpool – it's only an hour away.
