Things to do in Hailsham

Hailsham is a lovely little town in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Set amongst fields and greenery on all sides, it’s also conveniently close to the coast and our Combe Haven Holiday Park (just seven miles away).

Exploring the things to do in Hailsham is a brilliant day out when you’re with us for a few days, so we’ve whittled down all that the town has to offer into one list that makes planning some time here a cinch. Famously named Hamelesham in the Domesday Book published during the turbulence of 1066, the Hailsham of the 2020s is anything but doom and gloom. In fact, it’s one of Sussex’s finest places to visit, so let’s see what makes it so great.

Knockhatch Adventure Park

Knockhatch Adventure Park

Address: Hailsham Bypass, Hailsham BN27 3GD

An amazing adventure for kids and adults alike, Knockhatch Adventure Park is right at the top of the tree when it comes to things to do in Hailsham. You’ll find this festival of fun just outside the town centre, conveniently located for a car journey and brilliant whatever the weather is saying. There are indoor and outdoor experiences to be enjoyed.

Under the roof, there’s a brilliant ballpark and soft play area that thrills the younger ones amongst us. In the fresh air, there’s humongous jumping pillows to enjoy, mini games and play areas to explore. Knockhatch is also looks after animals, and you’ll see everything from chickens to meerkats making the adventure park their home.

Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre

Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre

Address: Hailsham Bypass, Hailsham BN27 3GD

Another offering from Knockhatch, the Ski and Snowboard Centre is a dramatic and refreshing change of scenery and definitely not your typical thing to do in Hailsham! The 110-metre dry ski slope perfectly recreates the conditions of Europe’s highest peaks, so this place is a magnet for ski enthusiasts from far and wide.

A 360 feet downslope is the cream of the crop here, and there is a brilliant Ringo Run for the kids as well as nursery slope for beginners. Lessons are laid on and there’s also the opportunity to snowboard, with the centre making full use of the facilities for not one, but two enthralling winter sports.

Arlington Stadium Racetrack

Arlington Stadium Racetrack

Address: Arlington Rd W, Hailsham BN27 3RE

Home to the Eastbourne Eagles speedway team, Arlington Stadium and its racetrack is a regional hub of motorsport. As well as massive speedway meets, the arena also hosts stock car racing.

There are regular meets in the calendar, so if you’re in the area and fancy seeing engines rev and a dramatic race to the finish line, checking out a race at Arlington Stadium is one of the best things to do in Hailsham.

Bringing your dog on holiday like so many of other guests do? The BIG Barn takes the meaning of a dog friendly holiday to Sussex up a notch. This huge all-weather area is the stuff dreams are made of for your furry friend.

There are toys to play with, obstacles to navigate and all of it amongst some of the finest rural scenery Sussex has to offer. The BIG Barn takes bookings throughout the day and evening, and with flood lights installed, there is just as much entertainment to be had when the sun goes down.

The Michelham Priory

Address: Michelham Priory, Upper Dicker, Hailsham BN27 3QS

This Augustine Priory is yet another slice of history in an area of Sussex where you’re truly spoilt for choice. With restored romantic features like a watermill open to visitors, the grounds of the priory are truly magical and a real escape from the hustle and bustle.

Founded in 1229, the priory enjoyed over 300 years of existence before being seized by Henry VIII in his great dissolution of the monasteries. The whole site is surrounded by a moat, and there are wings from the 13th- and 16th-centuries to explore. Things to do in Hailsham don’t get more historical than this, so be sure to add it to your itinerary.
