Here are our picks of the finest places to dine in Weston and its surroundings.

The Ginger Pig Kitchen

The Ginger Pig Kitchen

Cuisine: Modern British

Address: 4 West Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1JT

Topping the charts in terms of online reviews, The Ginger Pig serves modern British food in a lively venue with a bustling vibe. Local ingredients are combined into mouth-watering combinations including pork belly with miniature black puddings, mash and Vimto(!) red cabbage puree, and of course the local catch served with chunky chips.

The Ginger Pig has frequent tapas nights which are a massive draw, the calamari in particular receiving major thumbs ups from regulars. They don’t neglect desserts either, with delicious and beautifully presented confections garnished with spun sugar and a highly recommended crème brulee.

Scotty’s Lounge and Bistro

Scotty’s Lounge and Bistro

Cuisine: Seafood, British

The bottomless brunches are a major draw with the younger generation at the fun-loving Scotty’s in the town centre. Tapas are a common choice, because they allow you to taste as much of the local catch as possible!

Regulars rave about the seafood including the mussels, and the hake served with a chorizo cream. There are vegetarian and vegan options too, with the halloumi fries scoring highly. Popular with families and groups, Scotty’s is a bit of a party venue, and a great place for a cocktail or two as well as an evening meal.

Meze Mazi

Meze Mazi

Cuisine: Mediterranean / European

Address: 45 Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1TN

Like tapas, meze provides an opportunity to share and sample a range of dishes, and there are a host of vegan choices here too. Greek classics such as taramasalata and calamari are featured, alongside more exotic salads, dips and fish dishes including whitebait, sardines, and cod in Greek beer batter. For those who aren’t into fish, there’s souvlaki, slow-cooked beef and lamb, and sikotakia (chicken liver marinated in milk, fried with spring onions and oregano).

Vegetarians can enjoy over a dozen options aside from the salads, and small plate prices are low enough to sample a half dozen between two without breaking the bank.

The Curry Garden

Cuisine: Indian / Balti

Address: 69 Orchard Street, Weston-super-Mare BS23 1RL

Probably the most popular of the Asian restaurants in the town, The Curry Garden has been serving contemporary takes on Indian and Bangladeshi food for an impressive 40 years! It’s undoubtedly one of the best places to eat in Weston-Super-Mare.

The restaurant concentrates on two dozen signature dishes plus a few tandoori and seafood options. Specialities include the Chennai special grill (chicken, lamb, kebabs, lamb chops and onion bhaji) and New Delhi keema (spiced mince lamb and peas). There’s a whole separate menu for vegans too, plus a range of tempting desserts. All-in-all, this is real comfort food, served in an attractive and cosy venue.

There’s an authentic Greek taverna feel to Demetris, with its wooden beams and exposed stone walls. The food has an authenticity too – delicious meat or fish meze platters, souvlaki and stuffed vine leaves.

There’s a focus on local seafood, including lemon sole and brill (a flatfish similar to turbot), steak dishes and chicken cooked Greek-style with feta, herbs, and a tomato sauce. Check out their specials menu including scallops, octopus, and lobster ravioli too. The blend of local seafood and Greek ingredients proves a winning one with tourists and locals alike.

Sakura Japanese Restaurant

Sakura Japanese Restaurant

Another great way to try local seafood in Weston is in the sushi and sashimi on offer at Sakura. Japanese seafood is all about presentation and simplicity, which allows you to really taste the flavour of the fish. Sakura takes this approach with aplomb, serving up sea bass, salmon, mackerel, and scallops with the traditional wasabi, pickled ginger, and soy sauce.

Cooked dishes are available too, such as katsu chicken or pork curry, teppanyaki and stir fry noodles. It’s a spacious restaurant but if you want to watch the sushi being prepared and admire the chef’s skills, sit at the bar.

Diners rave about the chicken and mushroom risotto, the melt-in-the-mouth scallops and the speciality tagliatelle with crispy bacon, chicken, spring onions and cherry tomatoes.

All the classic Napoli-style pizzas are available and there are unique varieties including caprine with goat’s cheese and caramelised onions and the meat-heavy Michelangelo (beef, chicken, ham and spicy ‘nduja sausage).
