Best swimming pools near Ayr

Let’s start with our own venue, expanded to include an exciting flume ride and three giant waterslides to thrill our dippers. 

Splashaway Bay is Scotland’s largest water park, a multi-level complex that includes our Lazy River ride and lots of attractive water features, such as a giant tipping water bucket and Noodle Falls, watched over by our colourful penguin mascots. 

Kids will love their adventures here, while adults will rediscover their own inner water baby. There’s also a paddling pool for the tots and a deeper pool for adults and older kids. It’s an active and lively water experience!

The second-largest swimming facility in the region, the Citadel Leisure Centre, has a six-lane, 25m pool and a secondary pool which includes diving boards at one, three and five metres. As well as lane swimming sessions, there are general swimming sessions, aquafit classes and diving sessions. 

On Sunday mornings, the centre brings out its inflatables for the kids, including a floating assault course and water zorbing balls. This is the “fun and floating” session and booking well in advance is advisable.

Maybole’s pool is 25m long and has four lanes and a small area for spectators. As well as lane swimming and general swim sessions, the facility hosts aqua mobility classes and two “fun and floats” sessions for kids per week. 

Parking is available and classes ought to be booked well in advance to avoid disappointment - check their website before your visit. 

The Maybole pool is also handy if you’re visiting the village for its proximity to several grand and atmospheric castles.

Fairfield Leisure Club is just two minutes from the beach and from Ayr’s Pirate Pete’s theme park. Situated in the Fairfield House Hotel, the club is a compact, members-only spa and sauna, which offers monthly membership for non-residents. 

The club has a 15m pool, a sauna and steam room and a Jacuzzi. There’s also a small gym so you can work up a sweat in a different way.

Mungo’s Well is a small, private swim coaching facility for children. It’s perfect if you have a novice or nervous swimmer since they run private classes in a 5m pool, helping children master the basics of swim strokes and breathing techniques. 

Classes are held in groups of six or fewer, or you can book one-to-one sessions. Booking is compulsory, of course, and this isn’t the right choice for a family day out. However, if you have a long holiday booked so you can schedule a set of lessons, or you want to book a confidence building swim session for your child, Mungo’s could be a godsend.
