It’s little wonder that holidays here have always been popular as the county has more than 350 miles of coastline, some beautiful sandy beaches and one of the sunniest climates in the country. And there’s more – Essex also offers a wealth of activities and experiences that the whole family will enjoy.
For animal lovers there’s the famous Colchester Zoo, which is home to over 250 different species, while Tropical Wings Zoo is one of the only places in the country where you can see free-flying butterflies all year round! There are also lots of petting farms to visit – like Old McDonald’s Farm – where you can get up close with some furry farmyard friends.
Essex is also known for its stately homes and rich history, so if you fancy taking a step back in time to explore some sights from days gone by there’s plenty to choose from. Take a trip to the stunning 17th century Audley End House, visit the oldest wooden church in the world at Greensted, or explore the Jaywick Martello Tower, a Napoleonic fort that is now run as an arts and heritage centre.
If you’ve got an eye for art, you’ll already know that Essex is famous for being Constable Country, and the art scene here is buzzing. Be sure to check out the many galleries in the area – they often have changing exhibitions and great fun events that kids will love.
