There are handsome medieval towns to explore in Devon – and plenty of modern shopping centres here, too. Look out for landmarks like Exeter's cathedral and catacombs, or Plymouth's historic waterfront. Then there's Exmoor Zoo, home to over 175 species. Or if you prefer your creatures in their natural habitat, say "hi" to the wild ponies of Exmoor and Dartmoor. If you're an avid surfer, you'll be glad to see some really rad beaches on the English Riviera – Croyde Beach is one of the best surfing beaches in the UK, plus there's Bantham, Woolacombe and Putsborough pretty close by. If you crave variety in your holidays, Devon delivers – from tearooms to surf shacks.
