Family adventures at Tarka Holt in the Lake District

A sanctuary away from home, the Lake District's twinkling waters and stunning mountains make it a popular and picturesque retreat. Tarka Holt, in Lakeland (the Lake District's local nickname), is based closed to one of the most striking lakes, Windermere; a great location for exploration.

Our Lakeland site offers the impressive Tarka Holt development - the perfect base for those who want to discover the local area on foot, indulge in a lake cruise or get a taste of the past by boarding a steam train. The park even boasts its own lake, hosting a range of water sports, including canoeing, paddle boarding, raft building and kayaking. And the best bit? They can be enjoyed from your very own private jetty and boat launch adjoining your private decking which overhangs the lake.

This rural setting is the ideal place to relax and unwind, breathing in the fresh air and experiencing Mother Nature at her finest. The Lake District National Park offers even more than beautiful scenery, though. Why not try out the local cuisine? Kendal mint cake or cockles from Morecambe Bay are both delicious treats, and with coastal paths and craggy peaks never far away, you can walk off your delicious feasts.

If you're feeling adventurous, you could even attempt to scale Scafell Pike, the highest point in England. You'll feel invigorated on your return to your cosy lodge, as you leave your worries mountainside.
