Predicted heatwave for summer holidays

Haven Holidays are giving away Solar UV watches with all new bookings for the summer holidays as the Met office forecasts above average temperatures during July and August.

With temperatures expected to rise above 30 degrees, Haven are helping families to keep safe in the sun with a wristwatch that changes colour to show low, moderate, high or extreme levels of solar UV radiation – indicating to parents the amount of sun protection their children might need.

Haven are also reporting a sharp increase in bookings for the summer holiday period as families feel more confident that they won’t miss out on the sun by staying in the UK. Over the last week the popular UK holiday operator has seen an increase of 75% in summer holiday bookings for their Devon Cliffs Holiday Park compared to the same week in 2008 and an increase of 60% at Haggerston Castle in Northumberland. Other Parks are showing an average 25% increase in peak season bookings compared to the same time last year.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “The Met office has forecast a ‘barbecue summer’ with temperatures above 30 degrees across the UK. Our holidays offer excellent value for money - a week in July for a family of up to six people can cost less than £500 including access to a wide choice of first class facilities and a full programme of entertainment and activities. With direct access to some of the best beaches in the world and glorious sunshine as well why bother travelling overseas?”
