The weekend will be a showcase for several local organisations including the Wildlife Trust, Silent World, the Aquarium and Reptile Collection based locally in Tenby and Tinker’s Hill Bird of Prey Rescue Centre. Kiln Park, which is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, has its own Park Ranger who will be leading holidaymakers on a night-time bat walk as well as ‘mini-beast’ hunts for the children and a nature walk through the quagmire quagmire’ – a designated area of the Park that attracts lots of wildlife and sea-birds.
Green fancy dress, sports day, an ‘eco- treasure hunt’ and a fun day with side-shows, stalls and a hog roast are all on the agenda.
But the weekend has a more serious message as well. “We’ll be planting trees and organising a clean up and litter pick on South Beach too,” said Elma John, General Manager of Kiln Park, “and there will be a competition for the children to design an ‘eco-poster’ to remind fellow holidaymakers to re-use, recycle and stay green on holiday.”
Local MP Simon Hart will be paying a visit to the Park to meet guests and holiday home owners and see for himself the contribution the Park makes to the local area.
Kiln Park holds a Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award in recognition of its environmentally friendly policies for recycling, minimising utilities, working with local communities and promoting a greener way of holidaying.
Three night breaks over the Big Green Weekend, arriving on Friday 16th July, are available from £399 for a family of up to six people in a ‘Superior’ two bedroom holiday home.
