20% of UK families choose to stay in a caravan

This week is British Tourism Week, highlighting UK holidays and all that makes staying in Britain so special.

Visit Britain have reported that 1 in 5 people will be staying in a caravan this year. With 2.5 million people choosing to stay with Haven Holidays, that many people can't be wrong!

What makes a Haven Holiday attractive to so many people?

Haven say, “Value for money. We include lots in the price of the holiday so people can budget for their break. We have a range of extra activities such as AquaJet Extreme, Learn2Swim, bike hire or football coaching – but they all cost a manageable £5 per session. And we’ve just introduced a Leisure Pass for our flagship parks which allows families to book these in advance at a discounted rate – which makes it even easier to budget.”

Anxiety about the economic climate is encouraging people to stay in the UK this year but other factors include concern about air travel, the impact flying has on your carbon footprint and the length of time spent travelling overseas. Book a holiday closer to home and you can be unpacked and enjoying yourself in less time than it takes to check in for an overseas flight.

And location – people have often overlooked our own beautiful beaches, heritage and the number of family-friendly tourist attractions. This year has seen parents wanting to give their children a taste of a more traditional British holiday complete with sandcastles, candyfloss and visits to local beauty spots.

Many UK holiday companies are reporting an upsurge in bookings this year. Some Haven Parks are a whopping 40% ahead of 2008 - with camping and caravanning breaks ahead 66% in some areas.
